Girl run over by truck near KR Market
A sevenyear-old girl died after a mini truck allegedly ran over her near KR Market early Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Shivanya, daughter of Venkatesh, a street vendor from Tamil Nadu.
According to sources, Venkatesh, his wife and daughter used to make a living by selling junk jewellery items such as bangles, earrings and chains, on the roadside.
The police said that the family had come to Bengaluru for an exhibition near Huskur market. “As the family missed their bus to their hometown, they slept near a tender coconut mandi in the night,” police said.
Around 3 am, a Bolero mini truck entered the market to unload flowers at a shop. “After unloading, the driver steered his vehicle in reverse direction, unaware that the girl and her parents were sleeping on the footpath,” an eyewitness said.
As the girl came under the wheels, the people raised an alarm and the driver stopped the vehicle, but it was too late, sources said.
Following the incident, the driver fled the scene leaving behind his vehicle, jurisdictional traffic police said. A case has been registered by the police and a probe has been launched to nab the driver.
