Residents of Brindavan Layout  near K.R. Puram have coped with  nuisance created by a few irre- sponsible people and miscreants  on a road that connects five cross- roads of the layout. Now, they feel  happy for successfully beautifying the road and clearing debris,  weeds and illegal activities.

The road, popularly known as  a ‘Ring Road or Parallel Road’,  was one of the dirty black spots  around Brindavan Layout. The  residents, worried about illegal  activities and heaps of garbage,  began preparing a plan two years  ago. They have planted saplings  on both sides of the road but  could not proceed further as re- moving garbage was a big task.

“We were worried about the  condition of the road. A few in- cidents of chain snatching also  took place on this road. I contact- ed a BBMP Marshals to provide  a few pourakarmikas. Around 30  residents not only participated in  beautifying the road but also con- tributed money for buying paint  and other materials,” said Padma,  a resident and environmentalist.

It took more than a month to  clear garbage and remove weeds  on this road. The residents be- gan cleaning the road during the  last weekend of February and it  was completed by last weekend.  “Around 30 volunteers, includ- ing two artist students and kids,  participated in the programme  held during the last weekend,’’  she said.

Kavitha Pozhithu, a resident,  said that efforts were being made  to keep the road clean for the last  three years but in vain. Finally,  we decided to take up the work  last November, but we managed  to commence it in February and  complete it by March. Earlier,  no resident was willing to walk  on this road due to the nuisance  and the presence of miscreants.  Now, many residents come here  for a walk in the morning and eve- ning,” Kavitha said.

Appreciating the residents for  coming forward to keep the road  clean, BBMP Marshal Silverstar  Mariyadas said that he engaged  four pourakarmikas for three  days to clear debris and garbage  on this road. “I attended the complaint within.
