Engineers’ forum bats for Mekedatu
NT Correspondent
The Institution of Engineers Karnataka State Centre on Tuesday opined that Mekedatu Reservoir Project is a must for Karnataka, despite opposition from the Tamil Nadu government, environmental activists in Karnataka and a recent report by Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
At a programme organised here, The Institution of Engineers Karnataka State Centre chairman M. Lakshmana said the Mekedatu Reservoir Project is an essential project for the people of Bengaluru and Karnataka. Referring to a recent IISc report that the project will lead to a loss of forest cover, Lakshmana said that he agrees that there will be loss, but pointed out that “Bengaluru has no water alternatives except Cauvery. If we are thinking 50 years down the line, the project is a must at any cost.”
