Four arrested for extortion

Chikkajala police have arrested four youths for extorting money from the passersby in the area.

The accused have been identified as Santosh Kumar, 18, Nitin, 20, Anand Kumar, 18, and Nitin Kumar, 18. Police seized Rs 18,600 in cash, two bikes and four mobile phones from the accused.

All of them are college students, police said. In order to manage their day-to-day expenses including alcohol addiction, the students resorted to extortion, police said.

Police sources said that they were alerted about the illegal activities of the accused by the residents and passersby who recently had been victims of their extortion.
