Bengaluru: Now, special children, teachers and residents will heave a sigh of relief, thanks to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for fixing a gate at the entrance of the conservancy lane at Moore Road, adjacent to the Community Learning Centre.

News Trail published a story – Hold your breath! Spl kids train amid stench – on February 6 highlighting problems of the special children.

All these years, the conservancy lane was being used by lazy and irresponsible citizens with no civic sense as an open urinal. With this, around 10 special children had to cope with a fetid smell emanating from the conservancy lane throughout their training session. The special children come to the Community Lear ning Centre for physiotherapy. Teachers used to shut windows and seal ventilators with cardboard to prevent bad odour entering into the classroom.

It is not that no efforts were made to keep the conservancy lane clean. A few years ago, Frazer Town Residents’ Welfare Association members in association with the BBMP conservancy workers removed garbage and debris from the conservancy lane and covered the storm-water drain and installed gates at two entry points – Moore Road and Mosque Road – to prevent people entering the conservancy lane to attend to nature’s call. However, both the gates were removed by miscreants.

“I have to thank BBMP Zonal Commissioner Manoj Jain for taking measures to install the much-needed gate at the entrance of conservancy lane on Moore Road. I have pursued with the BBMP authorities and now I am very happy to see the gate installed,’’ said Habiba Subhan, a social activist.

While appreciating the BBMP authorities for installing a gate at the entrance of conservancy lane on Moore Road, RBBPAM Educational Institutions Director Ashritha Anantharam opined that the BBMP authorities should install a gate at the entry point of the conservancy lane at Mosque Road. “Having gates on both sides would prevent people entering the conservancy lane to create nuisance. The gate installed at the entrance on Moore Road will prevent people entering the conservancy lane but people can continue misusing the conservancy lane from Mosque Road side. So, I want the BBMP authorities to install a gate on the Mosque Road side to secure the conservancy lane,’’ said Ashritha Anantharam.

Meanwhile, BBMP Zonal Commissioner Manoj Jain said that the gate was installed as per residents’ demand. “There is no proposal to depute security guards to stop people misusing the conservancy lane as we have installed a gate. We, in association with residents, will take measures to keep this place clean,’’ said Manoj Jain.
