Halasuru police have arrested five people in connection with the murder of an ex-serviceman on Thursday. Jude Theddeus alias Suresh, 56, was found dead inside his house in Domlur on Wednesday by one of his neighbours.
Police have identified the accused as Babu, Murli, Gajendra Nayak, Rajendra Nayak and Devendra Nayak. They found that the five accused were related to each other and they hail from Andhra Pradesh.
Police said that the main accused, Babu, was working as a caretaker nurse at a reputed private hospital in the city.
Police have seized two cars, a house key and a towel, which were allegedly used in the crime. A cell phone belonging to Theddeus was also recovered from the accused.
When the jurisdictional police reached the crime spot for inspection, they found that chilly powder was spread across the hall and near the body. “The accused might have tried to erase fingerprints and other marks from the scene,” police said.
The police had to use technical and scientific methods of inspection in the case to bring the culprits to book.
Theddeus had been a recluse and had not contacted his family for a long time. Recently, he came into contact with Babu, police said.
The accused thought that Theddeus was rich and may be having a large amount of cash or valuables in his house. He along with his brothers and relatives hatched a plan and attacked Theddeus on Tuesday.
“Around 11am, the accused entered Theddeus’ home and attacked him. They suffocated him by wrapping a towel around his head tightly and then hit his head using a metal lock,” police said.
