Bengaluru: I n a recent case, a disabled person has accused two CCB officials of torturing him both mentally and physically. In his complaint to the Human Rights Commission, Naresh, a resident of Tippasandra, has claimed that he had been tortured by Police Inspector Ravi Patil and constable Nagaraj attached to Central Crime Branch, Bengaluru.
The complaint stated that every day for almost a week, Naresh used to get calls from the officers asking him to visit the police station. When the latter asked for summons, the officers told him that he is not supposed to ask such questions. On April 7, when the complainant visited the CCB police station around 3 pm, he was told that a case that had been filed against him during 2013 is still pending. To this, Naresh told them that it was a false case and it had already been closed years ago due to lack of evidence.
The complainant stated that the officials abused him using inappropriate words for arguing with them. He also claimed that the officials assaulted him.
“This is a misuse of their authority and power as a police officer. I just asked them for summons and that too for the case that has already been closed eight years ago,” the victim said. “This is not the way to treat a disabled person,” he added.
A copy of his complaint (case number 1240/10/31/2022), has been sent to the office of the Karnataka Chief Minister, the Home Minister’s office, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner among other officials.
The complainant in his letter has appealed to the authorities that strict action be taken against such police officers.
