Miffed BSY: Don’t name Shivamogga airport after me
By NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: Stung by criticism from his own party leaders, former CM and BJP veteran B.S.Yediyurappa has written to his successor, Basavaraj Bommai not to name the under-construction Shivamogga airport after him. Instead the state government was free to name the airport in his hometown after any other person who had made significant contributions to society, the former CM said.
Yediyurappa who seemed hurt by the criticism levelled against him of being corrupt and having gone to jail, said whatever contribution he had made as MLA, MP and CM, was very little but he had done it without any expectation.
The CM had recently announced in Shivamogga that the airport which is likely to be completed by December, would be named after Yediyurappa. This had kicked up a row with a section of leaders including Vijayapura City MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal strongly opposing the move saying it would set a bad precedent. They felt Bommai was committing a big blunder by paying ‘Guru Dakshina’ to his mentor, Yediyurappa in this manner and wanted him to consult everyone before finalising the name.
