Bomb threat emails from Pakistan: Police
By NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: The city police have expressed fears that terrorist organisations in Pakistan may be behind the recent fake bomb threats that were sent to reputed private schools in and around the city.
Checking on Google’s information on the emails sent using at least four servers, it was found that the mails have been sent from Pakistan, police said.
“It is suspected that the e-mails may have been sent by some terrorist organizations. Further investigation into the matter is continuing and the assistance of the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) has also been obtained,” a senior police officer said on Sunday.
The officers suspect that the emails had been sent by radical elements against the backdrop of series of controversies such as hijab row, halal row and ban on Muslim merchants near the state temple premises.
E-mails threatened to bomb about 18 prestigious private schools in Bengaluru and rural areas on 8 April. In the face of this threat, there was an atmosphere of anxiety in the schools that day. When the police finally inspected the schools, they were found to be pseudonymous e-mails. Bengaluru police are investigating the case.
The police, who had been tracking emails, wrote to Google and sought information based on which the four servers have been identified to be located in Pakistan.
The case in this regard has been registered under the Information Technology (IT) Act 66 (F).
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai commenting on bomb threats stated that there seems to be a conspiracy to disturb peace in Karnataka.
