Bengaluru: As part of the ‘Save Inscriptions, Save Heritage’ campaign, the Mythic Society is embarking on an ambitious project for ‘3D digital scanning of all inscriptions in the Bengaluru region. There is an urgent need for such a project as almost 40 percent of the stone inscriptions in BBMP limits have been destroyed in the last few decades as a result of lack of understanding, apathy and rapid urbanization.
S.Nagaraj, Honorary Secretary, the Mythic Society, said Bengaluru over the years has developed into a world-class global city and has thousands of years of history recorded in the form of inscriptions- about 175 inscriptions have been recorded in the city dating from C.E .750. to the 18th century. The project is the first of its kind in the country to digitally scan all stone inscriptions in Bengaluru, Bengaluru rural and Ramanagara districts in the 3D format. It uses advanced scanning and computer technology for the digital preservation of inscriptions and has given a new dimension to conservation of the inscriptions.
“Our initiative is to protect our inscriptional heritage using modern technology,” said Mr Nagaraj. ‘’People should be made aware of the need to preserve the inscriptions which help us understand the beliefs, customs and traditions of our ancestors’’, he said.
The Mythic Society is a pioneer institution in the area of Indic Studies, modern research, science and technology.
