Bengaluru: The Mahadevapura zone had reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the city during the past three waves. Now that we are approaching the fourth wave, the zone has once again become a Covid hotspot and is topping the list of new cases.
BBMP officials said the high caseload was due to high population density and many apartment complexes in the zone are now reporting fresh Covid cases.
As of April 29, BBMP data shows that Bellandur, Varthur and other wards which close to the Mahadevapura ward are also recording 25 plus cases every day, whereas in Suddagunte Palya, Koramangala, Bommanahalli and South Zone the cases of reporting are less than 15 cases.
“The positivity rate in the past eight days has been the highest. Currently, Mahadevapura zone has the largest number of active cases. We are planning to declare containment zones as this area is thickly populated. We are also carrying out a higher number of tests in this zone,” a health officer from Mahadevapura zone, Surender R, told News Trail.
According to BBMP reports, from April 22 onwards, Mahadevapura has continued to report more than 25 cases per day. The officials claim they are testing around 1,200 a day in the area and focusing mainly on RTPCR tests. However, there have been cases of inter-state travellers who caught the infection, which added to the caseload. It is claimed that no cluster has been reported as of now. “We have teams checking if the Covid-positive individuals are following our protocol. As of now we are mainly concentrating on the RTPCR test and RAT will be conducted only if there is a primary contact with some symptoms. There are many cases of people staying in apartment complexes contracting the virus. In such cases, we inform the neighbours, so they can take utmost caution. By Saturday morning the new circular will be issued and the testing will be increased in this zone” Surender added.
The other BBMP zone which had contributed a high number of cases in the past was the East Zone. It is now reporting more than 15 cases every day.
