Bengaluru: Bengaluru police on Wednesday b r o u g h t t h e prime accused in the PSI recruitment scam, Rudragowda Patil to the city on body warrant, as he was suspected to be involved in irregularities in the assistant engineer recruitment examination for the Public Works Department (PWD).

Deputy Commissioner of Police, West, Sanjeev M Patil said that the police officials from Annapoorneshwari Nagar police station had reached Kalaburagi to seek permission from the court in order to take Patil into custody for further investigation.

The action was taken after the Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) discovered that Patil was also involved in the assistant engineer recruitment scam. Initially Patil’s name was missing from the list when Manjunath Melakundi, an assistant engineer was arrested by the police.

Sources from police said, “The investigations had some flaws, deliberately or otherwise, which allowed Rudragowda Patil to carry on his nefarious deeds. Had he been caught then and probed, irregularities in the PSI recruitment could have been stopped.”

“The inquiry did not satisfy the City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant, who ordered officers to re-investigate the case,” sources said

The CID officials traced the location of Rudragowda Patil through his mobile phone and arrested him on April 23 from Pune in Maharashtra. He was later brought to Kalaburagi in the wee hours of April 24, where the court granted 13 days of police custody and handed him over to the CID.
