Bengaluru: The Police have finally succeeded in tracking down the absconding accused Nagesh, who had attacked a young woman with acid in Bengaluru on April 28, causing her 36 percent burn injuries.

According to sources, Nagesh Babu, 27, was nabbed on Friday from an ashram near Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu. The police said that the accused had donned the disguise of a Swamiji to evade arrest.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, Kamal Pant had earlier said that Nagesh had preplanned the acid attack on the girl and absconded soon after carrying out his cowardly act.

As the city police were being criticized by the public for failing to track the accused despite being aided by the latest technology, the police chief had said that the efforts that are being put into this case have never been put into any other case this year.

The accused threw acid on her for rejecting his marriage proposal.

After 15 days of intense efforts, the city police nabbed the accused from Tamil Nadu. The police said that a team of officers from Kamakshipalya police station conducted an operation to track him.

The accused Nagesh Babu’s pictures had been released by the Police to help the public identify him. Police had also issued the lookout notice in various languages including Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.

For the past 15 days, the victim has been battling serious burn injuries at St John's hospital in the city. However, the doctors said she is currently stable and recuperating.

So far, the police have detained Nagesh's family and 20 other people in connection with the case. Further investigation will follow, police said.
