Amenities lacking? ‘Catch collar of corporator’, says MP
By NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: Mysuru-Kodagu BJP MP Pratap Simha has stoked a fresh controversy by asking citizens to catch hold of corporators by their collars or hold a dharna in front of their houses if they lack basic amenities in their wards.
This incident happened Thursday morning in the city when a group of citizens complained regarding the defunct underground drainage system in their area.
Simha, who was on an inspection of the caved in Vani Vilasa Market, lost patience and informed the residents that he was the MP and his business was not to attend to problems in wards.
The MP said since corporators were not attending to problems, he was attending to problems concerning Vidyaranyapuram garbage dumpyard and other works.
Though it was not his duty he was doing it in the interest of citizens, the MP said.
Simha has been at loggerheads with local BJP legislators on the piped gas line project which was allotted to Mysuru over the digging of roads.
The MLAs have indirectly asked Simha not to act too smart as he would not have been elected to the Lok Sabha for a second time without their help.
It may be mentioned here that the BJP rules Mysuru City Corporation with the support of the Janata Dal (Secular).
