Accident: Injured boy succumbs after five days
Bengaluru: The 11-year-old boy, who was admitted to a hospital in the city last week following an accident on Jakkur flyover, succumbed on Friday.
Sanjay, who was sitting pillion behind his uncle Govindappa CT, 46, on a moped, fell on the road after they were hit by a speeding car on the flyover. The impact of the collision threw Govindappa off the flyover killing him. Sanjay, who was grievously injured, was rushed to a private hospital.
Sanjay, a student of class 5, had come from his village in Andhra Pradesh along with his mother, to his maternal aunt’s house near Jakkur flyover last Saturday. The next day his uncle Govindappa took him on a ride over the Jakkur flyover to show aircraft at the Jakkur Aerodrome.
After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family of the deceased. Following the intervention of health department officials, the Rs 1.35-lakh hospital bill was waived off for the family, as they were daily wage earners. According to sources, Sanjay was declared brain dead late on Thursday night by the doctors. The family opted to donate his organs to a private hospital in the city on Friday.
The city police arrested the car driver identified as Varun, who was returning from a trip to Nandi Hills along with his friends. After the accident, Varun, while allegedly trying to flee, dragged Govindappa’s moped for over 200 metres from the accident spot. However, he was nabbed with the help of the local people and commuters.
