Now, teenage girl dies after hand surgery

Bengaluru: In yet another incident of alleged medical apathy, a 21-year old engineering student lost her life after undergoing surgery at a private hospital here in the city.
The deceased was identified as Tejasvini, a native of Bagepalli town in Chikkaballapur district.
On May 16, Chethana Raj, a small screen Kannada actress breathed her last at a private hospital in the city after she had undergone a ‘fat-free’ plastic surgery. She was 21.
According to sources from the police, two doctors have been booked in connection with the incident.
It was revealed that Tejasvini was an engineering student who was accommodated at a PG to pursue her studies at a private college in the city. 
On Sunday, she reportedly slipped and fell down in the bathroom of her PG, severely injuring her forearm. Following this, she was admitted to Jeevika Hospital near Marathahalli for treatment, where she reportedly underwent a surgical procedure.
However, after a few hours of the surgery, Tejasvini is said to have passed away around 4 am on Monday. Her parents have accused the doctors of medical negligence and causing their daughter’s death.
Police have registered an FIR regarding the incident and are currently investigating the case by interrogating the accused doctors identified as anaesthesia specialist Dr Shahshank and Dr Ashok Shetty.
“The post-mortem report is awaited and police will take further action after we get clarity on the cause of the death,” a senior police officer said.
The police have also sought a second opinion by another doctor from a government hospital in order to ascertain the exact cause of the young woman’s death.
“The doctors had advised a hand surgery for Tejasvini and we had approved it. However, within a few hours of surgery, she passed away. The doctors have to explain the exact cause. It is because of their negligence that we have lost our daughter,” the parent’s of the deceased said.
Further investigations on the case are underway, police said.
