Congress Rajya Sabha MP JC Chandrashekhar on Wednesday called upon Education Minister BC Nagesh to resign.
He also asked Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai to dismiss the textbook revision committee.
“This committee was appointed before I became the education minister, Nagesh said. On the other hand, Suresh Kumar said that he hadn’t appointed the committee either. This does not make things clear. One should scrutinise what is happening within this party. Abolish the committee and seek the resignation of BC Nagesh. This is the demand I put before the chief minister,” Chandrashekhar said.
He added that the textbooks had a certain political bent and that the message it sent was not in keeping with the country’s multiculturalism. He also claimed that the textbooks had insulted greats of the land such as the Buddha, Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh. “The responsibility for all of this lies with the committee and the education minister. The minister should resign,” he said.
His party colleagues, including the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar, recently demanded the scrapping of the committee.
