The crime sleuths from Cyber Economics and Narcotics (CEN), Bengaluru, have arrested a person for allegedly duping people by posting attractive advertisements on an e-commerce website. The police identified the accused as Aman Kumar, 20, hailing from Delhi. The arrest was made based on a complaint filed at CEN police station by a victim who claimed to have lost Rs 72,000 recently, police said.
The complaint stated that the victim, who was seeking a refurbished laptop in good condition from an online marketing website, was attracted to an offer posted by a prospective seller regarding a Macbook available for Rs 1.5 lakh. When contacted, the seller insisted that the victim must initially pay Rs 72,000 towards shipping, packaging and other taxes.
However, after making the payment,, the complainant was shocked when he received an empty package. Realising that he had been cheated, the victim approached the CEN police and filed a complaint against the unidentified person. The police launched a probe and traced the accused’s contact number to a location in Delhi, from where the accused had been allegedly making calls to the victim.
During the interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had made it his modus operandi to earn easy money and had cheated several people in a similar manner.
