An argument took place between the local people and the Bengaluru police officials, who arrived at the Eidgah Maidan in Chamarajpet on Saturday morning. Amid the ongoing dispute over the ownership of the Eidgah Maidan, the police, in partnership with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has decided to install closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) around the 2.5-acre property.
The local people of the area argued that there is no need for the cameras. A senior police officer told News Trail, “Twelve CCTV cameras are being fixed surrounding the site. The cameras come with 4MP Zoom and 4K Clarity features and will be connected to monitor the premises. Chamrajpet police station will have access to the footage.”
After the BBMP’s recent claims that the land belongs to them and that members of all communities can use it with permission from the Joint Commissioner, BBMP (West), a few Hindu organisations sought clarity on why just one community was permitted to use the site if it was under the BBMP.
The Central Muslim Association (CMA), which presented paperwork and records to the BBMP on Thursday supporting their claim to the site, stated on Friday that while they were unaware of the plan to install CCTVs, they would not oppose it since it would boost security.
Jamia Masjid Imam meets city police commissioner
Bengaluru: Any person intending to outrage any religion or religious beliefs should be dealt with according to law, said Maulana Maqsood Imran Rashadi, the Imam of Jamia Masjid, Bengaluru. He along with other religious leaders met the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner C.H. Pratap Reddy on Saturday.
Nupur Sharma’s alleged derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad had ignited protests from Muslim groups around the globe. “The derogatory and insulting remarks against the Prophet made by the BJP national spokesperson, Nupur Sharma, has not only hurt the religious feelings of one particular community, but has also raised concern for other faiths. We had a discussion with the leaders of other religions, who are equally hurt due to the remarks,” the Imam said.
However, the Imam added that he does not support any protests being carried out in relation to this controversy across Karnataka.
