JD(S) MLA Srinivas slaps ITI principal; public urges him to tender apology

The Janata Dal (Secular) MLA of Mandya Constituency, M.Srinivas is in the dock after he assaulted the additional principal of a college for not giving a proper explanation regarding the ongoing construction of a computer lab.

The video of the MLA slapping the principal in front of the staff of the whole college has gone viral on social media. This has evoked sharp reactions from citizens who slammed the elected representative for his behaviour in public.

The MLA or MP can question government employees but they cannot hit anyone that too in public view. The JD(S) MLA must tender an apology to the principal for hitting him in front of others, citizens demanded.

The MLA, along with his followers, had gone to Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar ITI College in Mandya to review the progress of construction of the computer lab building. At this time, the college principal, Naganand reportedly could not give a satisfactory reply on the lab construction. This angered Srinivas who slapped the principal in front of college staff.

According to eye witnesses, the MLA slapped Naganand two or three times. The principal was taken aback by the behavior of the JD(S) MLA. Taking strong objection to the Slapgate scandal, Mandya District State Employees Association President Shambugowda said he will bring this to the notice of the deputy commissioner.

Close on the heels of the incident, the association president held an emergency meeting and collected details from the principal. People feel Srinivas could have complained to the Department of Higher Education against the principal instead of slapping him. The MLA must tender a public apology to Naganand for insulting him in full public view, they felt.
