A day after the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) special commissioner (projects) said that there were only 1416 potholes left to be filled in the city, the civic body’s chief commissioner said that about 3,000 potholes were added to the total number after weekly surveys. BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said on Wednesday that the number will go up after the weekly surveys.

PM Bengaluru’s ‘guest’

When asked about the poor quality of asphalting works, the commissioner said it was an exaggeration. “Why look at just one spot? The roads were laid during rains. Hence it caused damage. The contractor will repair it,” he said.

Regarding the fasttracked road repairs ahead of the PM’s visit, he said, “It was an honour to have the prime minister as our city’s guest. We have asphalted roads only where it was required.” He said the Janabharathi roads, which were asphalted, would not be considered for white topping for the next three years.

Flex banner removal

He said that the civic body has given one week’s time for the removal of flex banners. Those who erected them should remove them at their own expense. “Filing cases against violators would be the last step,” he said and denied that there was any pressure from the local leaders to refrain from cracking down on the violators. The commissioner said the banners are often put up overnight and the civic body lacks sufficient manpower to control this activity
