Officials of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and other civic agencies inspected the city’s major junctions that saw perpetual traffic jams.

After inspecting the Goraguntepalya junction on Tumkur road, Hebbal flyover junction and K R Puram junctions, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said that as a short-term plan, several small measures can be taken quickly to ease traffic.

He mentioned that the streamlining of buses headed towards different destinations would help in easing blockages. “At Hebbal junction, signages and physical barriers can be used to direct traffic from the Airport onto the flyover without blocking the vehicles entering the flyover or those turning away from it,” he said.

BBMP Special Commissioner Trilok Chandra said that interventions in traffic engineering, especially in junctions where Metro construction is on, would help decongest the city. “Proper signage to direct traffic and separate bus bays will be planned at these junctions,” he said.

“A service lane near Hebbal junction and another road to divert traffic that is bound for Sahakar Nagar has been planned via Sanjivini Nagar so that these vehicles will not hold up traffic at the junction,” the Chief Commissioner said.

He added that improvement of pedestrian crossings, footpaths and installation of skywalks – especially at Goraguntepalya junction, will also help prevent traffic congestion.
