The Peripheral Ring Road project has been on the cards for over 17 years and has not materialised yet. Meanwhile, the delay has had an adverse impact on the farmers of over 60 villages through which the road is supposed to pass.
A group of farmers from the Dasanapura and surrounding villages on the outskirts of Bengaluru said they would protest in front of the BDA office on July 12. The representatives of the farmers said that the 65 km-long ring road would require 1,810 acres of land from the farmers. The farmers have not been able to engage in any developmental activities ever since the notification of their land and term this an infringement on their fundamental rights.
"They want to lay the road on our graves," said Srinivas, a distressed farmer, as he spoke about the condition of the farmers’ families which are not able to afford healthcare and education. The farmers say that the government owes them compensation as per the Land Acquisition Act 2013, but were being offered compensation as per an 1894 law. The farmers said their next step would be to write regarding the issue to the Chief Justice of India
