NEP proposals anti-science: AISEC

Bengaluru:

The All India Save Education Committee (AISEC) has condemned the position papers put out for the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, deeming them “anti-science”. The statement said the position paper on ‘Culture and Pedagogy’ has shamelessly asked the students to go back to ‘age-old memorisation practices’ and is of the opinion that ‘evidence based thinking affected the Indian ways’.

It said the policymakers have contempt towards Science and pointed out that India could never forget the fact that the stalwarts like Acharya P C Ray, J C Bose, Satyen Bose, Meghanath Shah, C V Raman and others were the product of the culture of reasoning, questioning and scientific research.

AISEC also highlighted that the paper says ‘English knowing arrogance’ and ‘urban arrogance’ have hampered freedom of expression among children and called on the government to stop making moves in order to deprive vast masses of children from poor families from learning English and scientific temper.

“With its brute majority in Parliament, the BJP at one stroke wants to destroy the legacy, labour, toil and achievements of all the great scientists, thinkers and social reformers. The BJP and Sangh Parivar are resorting to the worst ever crime on civilization, that is, to emasculate our children from the powerful weapon of science, reasoning and questioning mind,” the statement said
