Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) police in Bengaluru North-East division arrested four people for allegedly running a fraudulent 'packers and movers' service online and duping their customers. The police identified the accused as Puran Singh Chauhan, 25, Narendra, 32 and Dharmendar, 21, from Rajasthan; the fourth accused Dharamveer, 24, was a native of Haryana, police said.
The arrests were made based on a complaint filed by a Bengaluru resident recently regarding an online fraud. The complainant stated that he owned a Royal Enfield bike which he wanted to transport to Hubballi. Looking for transport services on the web, the complainant had contacted the accused and paid Rs 4,000 to shift his bike from Bengaluru to Hubballi.
A team visited the complainant and took the bike after packing it. However, when the bike was not delivered after the promised date, the complainant called up the accused who demanded more money claiming certain taxes. The complainant paid more money but still his bike was not delivered. Suspecting them, the resident reached the CEN department on June 26 and registered a complaint regarding the incident.
The police said that the gang was running a fake transport firm impersonating leading packers and movers company and had allegedly duped several people on the pretext of providing low-cost services.
