Following heavy rains in several districts, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai held a video conference with the deputy commissioners of eleven districts on Tuesday and took stock of the situation. Officials told the CM that since June 1, agricultural crops on 3499 hectares and horticulture crops on 2057 hectares have suffered damage. While 2430 houses have been completely damaged, 4378 houses have suffered partial damage. As many as 39 persons have lost their lives and 99 cattle have been killed. A total of 1730 km of roads have been damaged in urban areas and 5419 km in rural areas. A total of 629 bridges, 3264 school buildings and 29 primary health centres too have suffered damage. The CM instructed officials of the Minor Irrigation department and Zilla Panchayats to be cautious as all tanks are full due to heavy rains and the bunds have become weak. Special focus must be given to those tanks which are filled to the brim and steps must be taken to make sure the bunds do not breach their banks.
