Peepal tree atop a BBMP school threatens structure

Bengaluru: Growth of wild plants, weed and hyacinth atop old buildings is a common scenario in metro cities. However, a few BBMP schools in the city were found with such plants growing on the roof of the building. While it may seem like the civic body has taken up a new responsibility of letting plants grow on school buildings, it must be noted that this growth weakens the structure. A peepal tree was seen growing atop a BBMP school building at Jogupalya in Bengaluru, leaving lives of students and teachers in danger.
The building of a BBMP High School situated on Jogupalya Main Road has weed grown on its corners while an algae-laced platform welcomes visitors into the school. While the maintenance of this school seems to be a forgotten affair, indiscipline is in the air here. The development works of this school come under the jurisdiction of BBMP’s Education department.
BBMP Special Commissioner for Education Reddy Shankar Babu on Wednesday directed the senior education officer to visit the BBMP High School at Jogupalya and take measures to fix the issue with the electrical motor. News Trail has published a story on Tuesday narrating the plight of students and teaching staff due to no water in restrooms.
“I want to express my gratitude to the BBMP Special Commissioner for Education and the BBMP Senior Education Officer for taking measures to fix the electrical motor problem. We have been struggling a lot due to lack of water at toilets,’’ said the headmaster.
He said an electrician took the electrical motor to his shop to repair it. “We expect him to repair it by evening or tomorrow. Meanwhile, the BBMP higher officer has assured to get a new electrical motor for this school,’’ he said.
