The city police investigating the mysterious death of a BBMP contractor and his family, said it is still unclear whether it was a suicide or a murder.

BBMP contractor Mahesh Gowda, 44, his wife Jyoti, 29, a home-maker, and their son Nandish 9, a student of class two, were allegedly found dead inside their residence in Gowdanapalaya on Thursday.

The matter came to light when one of the relatives, who lived nearby, tried to get in touch with them. They found the house was locked from inside. As they possessed a spare key, they opened the door and found the bodies.

They immediately alerted the police control room. During the inspection, the police found a note which claimed that Gowda was suffering from cancer and could not afford treatment. It further stated that as he feared that his family would suffer after his death, they were committing suicide.

The police, however, are sceptical about the veracity of the note. “We found some clues including scratch marks on the bodies and pillows which might have been used in smothering the woman and the child.

Until we get the autopsy reports, we cannot come to a conclusion,” police said. Further investigations are on, police added.
