Rains returned to parts of Bengaluru on Sunday, driving down temperatures while some rain damage and waterlogging were reported in the city.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) data said that Bengaluru city recorded rainfall of 15.8 mm on Sunday as of 5:30 pm in the evening.

The city’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) airport area recorded 13.3 mm of rain in the same time period. Moreover, the Bengaluru international airport area in Devanahalli received 5.2 mm of rain.

According to IMD, the maximum temperature in the city on Saturday was 29.1 degrees Celsius. It dipped to 28.5 degrees on Sunday, a modest dip of 0.6 degrees. Meanwhile, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanag ara Palike (BBMP) officials said that they had received a couple of complaints of tree damage, including a single tree falling. “In Hosahalli near Vijayanagar, a tree fell. This is ward number 124. We received another complaint from Chandra Layout where branches had fallen. Rain didn’t continue for a long time. So water hasn’t entered houses, it would appear,” a BBMP official said.

However, some streets got waterlogged in parts of the city. Many underpasses were flooded, including the one on Binnypet main road. Rains also slowed down vehicular traffic as fewer people want to risk speeding on slippery streets.

 Coastal districts hit

Moreover, rain continued to batter in some parts of the state. All the three coastal Karnataka districts – Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi were issued yellow alerts for Monday and Tuesday by IMD. “Rainfall occurred at most places over Coastal Karnataka; at a few places over North Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over South Interior Karnataka,” an IMD statement said.

Uttara Kannada district recorded the heaviest rainfall in the state. Castle Rock received 6 cm rain. Saidapur in Yadgir district recorded 4 cm. Meanwhile, Jagalbet and Kadra in Uttara Kannada district received 3cm rainfall each
