Bengaluru: As the city is witnessing a spike in suicide cases, a shocking incident has come to light where a woman allegedly killed her 3-year-old daughter by drowning her in a tub full of water before attempting to hang herself. The woman was identified as Gayathri Devi, 23, and her daughter as Samyukta.
It was revealed that Gayathri Devi and her husband, Narendra, were natives of Tamil Nadu and had recently shifted to Bengaluru's Doddanekundi near Vibhutipura Extension in the HAL police station limits. The incident came to light on Monday when Narendra, who had been to his hometown, returned home around 4:30 am in the morning.
After multiple doorbells and phone calls went unanswered, he turned suspicious and forced the door open only to find his daughter drowned in a tub and Gayathri hanging from a ceiling fan. Narendra immediately brought his wife down and shifted her to a private hospital along with their daughter.
The unconscious Gayathri was rescued in the nick of time. However, the child was declared brought dead.
The investigative team of police said that they had procured a death note from the spot where Gayathri had claimed to be suffering from suicidal ideation and was worried that there would be no one to take care of her child after her death.
She had also said that she had no issues with her husband, police said.
Speaking to News Trail, the HAL police said that Gayathri was from Dharmapuri while Narendra was from Erode. The couple had married five years ago and had recently shifted to Bengaluru. Narendra had been to his native to see his ailing father.
It was revealed that Narendra's mother had allegedly committed suicide 20 days ago. The police said that this incident might have had an impact on Gayathri's mind.
The incident took place in Gururaja Layout of Vibhutipura Extension in Doddanekundi, near HAL. The mother identified as Gayatri Devi suffering from suicidal tendencies since childhood and drowned her daughter.
The father of the deceased, Narendra had gone to visit his ailing father in his native, as his mother had committed suicide just 20 days ago.
Meanwhile, the doctors said that Gayathri is being treated at the hospital and is out of danger.
