Bangalore Solid Waste Management Limited has released a new tender of Rs 590 crore for disposal of all types of waste, including raw and dry waste, to 243 wards of the Corporation. The organization has been newly set up to solve the problem of garbage collection in the city.
From the past few years BBMP has undertaken many tender processes for garbage collection in Bengaluru, but nothing worked out. So now the tender is being invited by Bangalore Solid Waste Management Organization.
At present, three to four wards have been combined into one unit according to the amount of waste being accumulated in the respective wards. Accordingly, 243 wards have been divided into 89 units and tenders have been called. A pre-bid meeting will be held with the contractors on September 8.
September 28 is the last day for tender bidding. Technical document verification will be done on the same. Parameswaraiah, Chief General Manager of ‘Bangalore Solid Waste Management Institute’, said the tender bid will be opened on September 30. Earlier, BBMP spent around Rs 450 crore for raw waste collection. An annual expenditure plan was also prepared for it. However, residents of the city were not satisfied with the garbage collection process by BBMP.
It is also expected that the tender amount by Bangalore Solid Waste Management Limited is likely to increase further as contractors bid.
The organisation’s officials informed that the contractor will be fully responsible for the waste collection. “Collection of raw, dry and sanitary waste will be done from house to house. Black spots cleaning, meat waste collection, building waste disposal, road and grounds are the responsibility of the contractor. If the rule is violated, the contractor will be fined heavily,” said Harish Kumar, special commissioner, solid waste management.
It is also mandatory for contractors to collect garbage in closed vehicles from house to house in a segregated manner. It is stipulated that only three wards will be awarded to one contractor
