Mysuru: The State Cabinet will approve the construction of a special cancer hospital in Mysuru at a cost of Rs 130 crore, said Health and Medical Education Minister Dr.K.Sudhakar. He told reporters here on Thursday that the Cabinet will give its approval in the next meeting for the construction of the cancer hospital.

In the first phase, Rs 50 crore would be released. Tenders have been floated for the renovation of the century-old Krishna Rajendra Hospital and the process is in the approval stage. The government has an ambitious plan of distributing five crore Ayushman Cards before the end of the year.

Vacancies in the Health Department would be filled up soon while approval had been given for the recruitment of doctors and staff in super specialty hospitals, he said. Dr.Sudhakar said one case of the new variant of Omicron was found in neighbouring Maharashtra and deputy commissioners of border districts have been issued strict instructions to be vigilant.

"No decision has been taken regarding making face masks compulsory," he said. Asked about Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah addressing him in the singular, the minister said the former CM has learnt everything but not the use of language in the plural.

"Those who have gone from the Congress to BJP will not go back, including BJP MLC A.H.Vishwanath," he asserted. On Siddaramaiah's proposed tour of North Karnataka and KPCC President D.K.Shivakumar's tour of South Karnataka, Dr.Sudhakar said both leaders were at loggerheads because of which they wanted to go in opposition directions which was not surprising.
