Oppn smells BJP’s conspiracy in cop’s death

Bengaluru: Opposition parties on Friday sought to pressurise the State government into ordering a probe into the death of a suspended Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) in the city. The PSI Nandeesha HL(in pic) was attached to the KR Puram Police Station. He developed severe chest pain and was rushed to a hospital in Kaggadaspura, where he died late in the afternoon.

The cop had been suspended by city police commissioner CH Pratap Reddy on October 19 for alleged dereliction of duty following a Central Crime Branch (CCB) raid on a bar. The CCB had found that the facility had rented a DJ without permission and arranged for a party that carried on long after the permitted hours.

Nandeesha’s family has been distraught and furious over the suspension, which they believe, caused his ill health. Leader of the Opposition (LOP) in the Council BK Hariprasad went so far as to claim that a BJP conspiracy was behind the death of the cop.

“A high-level investigation must be ordered into Nandeesha’s death case. It doesn’t look like he was suspended due to a bar issue. There appears to have been a bigger issue. I had said earlier that they demand Rs 70 lakh to 2 crore rupees for police posting. This is the culture of the BJP. There seems to be a bigger issue behind Nandeesha’s death,” Hariprasad said.

Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy chose to see it as an injustice committed by a “north Indian” official. “This death happened due to the BJP’s high command. Harassment on the part of senior officials of north Indian descent and the behaviour of the government, handing out posts for cash, is the reason for the death,” he said.

“A high-level investigation must happen on this,” he added. Kumaraswamy said that the distraught members of Nandeesha’s family deserved justice and transparency.
