Bengaluru: In the last few years, Gin has been growing in popularity in the country, thanks to a lot of new Indian Gin manufacturers that include Greater Than, Jaisalmer, and Stranger and Son and with International gin brands becoming accessible and affordable.
The spirit is popular because of its subtle taste that mixes well in most cocktails and does not give you a hangover the next day. To give it that extra boost and give people a sense of what's on offer Gin Explorer’s Club hosted the biggest celebration of Gin - Mythical Edition at Jayamahal Palace which had two grounds dedicated to Gin Stalls both international and local for people to walk around and sample and you were given your own glass at entry.
The brands featured at the festival included Beefeater, Bulldog, Gordon's x Jimmy's, Greater Than, Hendrick's, Jade Forest, Jaisalmer, Malfy, Monkey 47, Salud, Samsara, Schweppes, Stranger & Sons, Tamras and Tanqueray.
Originating as a medicinal liquor made by monks and alchemists across Europe, it has surged in popularity with the youth and hundreds of people dropped in to sample cocktails or go with the classic Gin and Tonic as they listened to some live music performed by Frizzell D’Souza, Huyana and Aditi Ramesh.
The highlight of the evening was when Peter Cat Recording Co. took the stage for which many who were listening to them for the first time flocked in with ardent followers in a set that was nearly divine. They mesmerized the audience with their popular songs like Shit I’m Dreaming, I’m Home and Where the Money Flows.
The performance and the environment blended in perfect synergy with the spirits flowing that can only be described as an absurdist play in action where everyone played their parts perfectly, band and audience.
Most people walked out having had a really excellent evening and probably having found a new Gin they didn’t know they previously liked. The festival was indeed mythical and was an extremely fun introduction to Gin to newbies and a treat for fans of the spirit.
