Investigate tigress death, save cubs: Wildlife lovers

Mysuru: The organisation Cricketers For Wildlife Conservation (CFWC) have written to the Karnataka Forest Department to investigate the death of a tigress in Kabini and to rescue the three cubs that she had left behind. “It is disappointing that a tigress was snared in Nagarhole tiger reserve.

The tigress is reported to have three young cubs, around six months old. The cubs will not survive unless a forest department search party locates them and sends them to a nearby rehabilitation centre,” the letter said.

They pointed out that similar incidents had happened in the past, despite it being a protected area for the big cats. “The carcass of the snared tigress was found near Taraka dam, Antharsanthe range (Kabini). Despite forest officers being cautioned of the presence and activity of poachers, tigers are being snared, shot, poisoned often in the national park.

The government should constitute a fact-finding committee to get to the bottom of this poaching menace. It should be recalled that two tigers were shot dead in Nagarhole tiger reserve recently,” they added.
