Bengaluru:

Speaking during the National Press Day held at the Press Club in the city on Wednesday, Karnataka Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs JC Madhuswamy opined that the media plays a pivotal role in nationbuilding. “Not just criticising, but providing appropriate advice, suggestions and guidance to the administrative system is also one of the responsibilities of the news media,” the minister said.

He added if the governments and administrative system make a mistake, the media must intervene and must try to correct it in the most innovative way without disparaging them. “Better suggestions and feedback from the public must be brought to the notice of the governments and the authorities so that they can correct the error that is taking place,” he said.

Madhuswamy explained that nation-building does not mean building big industries and infrastructures, rather, it means achieving comprehensive development in all fields, which is possible only when each and every citizen steps forward towards diversity irrespective of their caste, creed, and culture, he said. The minister also spoke about impartial reporting and media coverage.

Renowned film actor Anant Nag delivered the keynote address, lauding the efforts of the journalists. “The journalists have a greater responsibility to preserve moral values and share them with the next generation as well,” he said.
