Bengaluru:

A co-accused in a murder case who was absconding for more than 12 years has been nabbed by the city police, all thanks to the Mobile Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (MCCTNC) which is being used by the cops to track offenders on the run from law. The accused, identified by the police as Ramesh, 40, was a co-accused in a murder case that was registered on August 29, 2005, at Tavarekere police station here.

The police said that the accused was one of the gang members who had entered a house near Balaji Nagar and had murdered the owner before being arrested and sent to prison. Later in 2010, he was released on bail with a condition to appear before the court for hearings.

The police said that Ramesh had disappeared from the police radar and had been evading the police notice since then. However, with the implementation of the MCCTNC application, the police started scanning the thumb impression of suspicious persons to detect their identity and if any cases have been registered against them.

The accused was nabbed in a similar operation carried out by the night-beat cops attached to Yeshwanthpur police station. The accused had been arrested and is currently being interrogated by the police. Further investigation is underway.
