Voters’ data fraud: App developer detained

NT Correspondent

Bengaluru:

Police on Sunday detained the main software developer of the Digital Sameeksha app, which was recording the voters’ data illegally collected by Chilume Educational Cultural and Rural Development Trust, by impersonating as the city’s civic body BBMP. The police are conducting a thorough investigation – analysing the app used to collect the voters data, ascertaining what it was collected for and whom it was meant for.

DCP (Central Division) Srinivas Gowda has said that the developer is being questioned to find out the purpose of the app and its applications. Prior to this, the Halasuru Gate police had arrested one of the directors of the trust, Kempegowda. They had initially failed to track him down through call details. However, based on information provided by his family members, the police were able to find him at a friend’s house in Nelamangala.

But he gave them a slip and the police were also unable to catch him later in Dabspet. He was finally arrested from a friend’s place located in Sidlaghatta late night on Sunday. He had destroyed his phone in Nelamangala to mislead the cops. On the other hand, Kempegowda’s brother, Krishnappa Ravikumar, co-founder of the trust and the prime accused is still on the run.

Several police teams have been dispatched to catch him. They have also questioned his family members for many hours to find out his whereabouts. Ravikumar is said to be a realtor from Dabspet, who has links with a handful of politicians through his phone and email.
