Bengaluru:

Wildlife expert Dr K Ullas Karanth’s book 'Among Tigers: Fighting to Bring Back Asia’s Cats’ will be released in the city on November 27. The book chronicles Karanth’s five-decade-long interaction with wild tigers. Karanth traces the journey of the national animal that was on the verge of extinction, with barely 5,000 big cats left behind, to its revival. He feels that by taking prudent policy decisions their numbers can further increase.

The book release event, to be held at Bangalore International Centre, will be followed a panel discussion in which speakers like Shoba Narayan, a journalist, Mahesh Rangarajan, professor of History and Environmental Studies and former member of the Forest Advisory Committee and Elephant Task Force, Shiv Someshwar, an author and professor hailing from Mangalore experienced in managing environmental programs at the Rockefeller Foundation, and Narayan Ramachandran, Co-founder and Senior Fellow at the Takshashila Institution will take part. Ullas Karanth is currently the Director of the Centre for Wildlife Studies which was founded in 1984. He was born in the wilderness of Malnad in 1948 and was intrigued by nature; his father, writer Shivarama Karanth nurtured him and supported him
