Curbs on goods vehicles ease traffic woes on Hebbal flyover

Bengaluru: After imposing a temporary re - striction on the movement of all forms of goods vehicles from Sadahalli junction to Hebbal flyover, Special Commissioner for the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), MA Saleem said that the BTP has plans to decongest other areas of the city in a similar manner.

Hour-long traffic jams on Hebbal f lyover and Kempapura junction have been a regular feature for years without a proper solution. Residents and motorists had been posting images and videos on social media to highlight the nightmarish traffic movement in Hebbal.

On November 18, the BTP had temporarily restricted the entry of goods vehicles on the Hebbal flyover to check the flow of the traffic during the peak hours between 8:30 am to 10:30 am. This plan from the BTP was well received by the motorists in the city who claim to have saved at least 20 minutes while travelling on the flyover.

Saleem told reporters that due to the restricted movement of goods vehicles, it seems we have reduced the traffic congestion by at least 25 per cent on these junctions. "Efforts will be made to decongest the junctions further," he said. He said that studies are being conducted to understand traffic issues in other areas of Bengaluru.

"While there are some traffic management issues, others are infrastructure related issues here. We are discussing this with the officers concerned and departments and soon we will come out with practical solutions to these problems," he said.
