Bengaluru: Amid growing speculation about a potential leadership change in the state, the Congress high command has taken decisive steps to stabilise the party. The recent power tussle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar had caused embarrassment and setbacks within the state unit, prompting the central leadership to intervene.

With the parliamentary session beginning on Monday and the Belagavi legislative session scheduled for December 8, the high command deemed it necessary to put a stop to confusion and maintain cohesion. Acting on the central leadership’s directive, both leaders were instructed to temporarily pause any confrontational moves or decisions regarding leadership or cabinet reshuffles.

The high command emphasized that matters could be revisited once the situation became clearer, with pending decisions expected to be addressed after the Belagavi session. The instruction, reportedly communicated via a phone call from Delhi through AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, underscored the urgency of projecting unity and averting further disruption ahead of crucial legislative proceedings.

Recent statements, posters, and media reports had fueled speculation about differences between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. However, a surprise breakfast meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Cauvery residence marked a dramatic change in tone.

The meeting signaled reconciliation and a public message that there are no disagreements between the two top leaders, effectively countering rumors of factionalism. Political observers note that the meeting served multiple purposes.

Beyond resolving differences, it projected a clear message of coordination and stability to the party, the public, and the opposition. By timing the interaction just before legislative sessions, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar reassured party workers that the state leadership is aligned and capable of handling challenges from rival parties.

The symbolic weight of the breakfast meeting was significant. It demonstrated controlled messaging, personal rapport between the leaders, and the high command’s influence in guiding the party’s strategy. Analysts suggest that this carefully choreographed show of unity strengthens the Congress’ position in the state, preventing the opposition from exploiting perceived internal conflict.

Both leaders reiterated publicly that there is no problem between them. Their joint stance not only reassures party members but also signals that the leadership is committed to collective responsibility and collaboration. Finally, the breakfast meeting itself surprised political circles.

By meeting directly, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar demonstrated their willingness to resolve misunderstandings personally while aligning fully with the high command’s instructions. The move reinforces the importance of unity, discipline, and strategic messaging within the party as it navigates upcoming legislative sessions.
